The building of the former synagogue in Ivye

The Jewish people occupy an important place in the history and culture of Belarus. Before the start of the Great Patriotic War, more than 76% of the population of Ivye was Jews, which, of course, affected the architecture of the city. The Jews lived in a shtetl, where they owned more than 150 houses and several synagogues: for poor Jews, for artisans and wealthy Jews. Several Jewish houses of prayer have survived to this day. Most of them were destroyed in 1929.
One of the synagogues that has survived to this day was built in the 19 th century. However, the house of prayer has long since changed its purpose. Now there is a youth sports school. Not far from it you can see the building that housed the second synagogue.
