Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary in Traby
In the Lithuanian chronicle of the XV century it is narrated about the formation of the unique Belarusian village of Traby in Grodno region. This place was founded by the Lithuanian Prince Trabus. According to some testimonials there was a Catholic parish here in 1410. In comparison with other Belarusian villages, a wooden church had already functioned in Traby at the beginning of the XVI century and a school was opened there.
At the beginning of the XX century it was decided to build a Catholic church in Traby. As a result in 1905 the village had a new sight – a stone church built in the neo-Gothic style. The building is decorated with a five-sided apse and a small transept. The building itself has the shape of a rectangle and two towers rise majestically above the main entrance – a bright and integral feature of the neo-Gothic churches of the XIX-XX centuries.
The main part of the building is covered with a gable roof, and high tents can be seen above the three-pitched towers. There is also a certain peculiarity in the layout and structure of the building: the wings of the transept are adjacent to both the main volume and the apse. Now the Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary is functioning and church services are regularly held here. Inside the church you can see rare things: maintained icons of the XIX century, which are of great historical value.
